Eligibility Requirements

Admission to BU Law’s Certificate Programs is competitive and depends to a great extent on the candidate’s prior academic achievements and/or professional experience in law or a related field. While our programs are designed for qualified lawyers, we welcome applications from highly-qualified candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with additional professional experience in a legal services or other related field. As such, you do not need to hold a law degree to apply to our certificate programs. If you wish to receive additional information describing the qualifications of students who have received admission to our certificate programs without formal legal training, please contact bullm@bu.edu.

A completed application includes the following documents and supporting materials:

3. Resume

No work experience is required, although professional experience will aid in the acquisition and retention of program concepts.

8. Personal Statement of Interest (Optional)

Candidates may choose to supplement their other materials through a separate personal statement, outlining their reasons for being interested in the program. This is not required for an application to be considered complete.

9. Interview (Optional)

If a candidate would like to interview with the Director of the program prior to receiving their decision, they should express that in their application materials and communication. Applicants may also request a consultation with the Director following admission to the program. This is an ideal time for applicants to ask in-depth questions about the program.

10. Admission Decision

Following a review of an applicant’s submitted materials, qualifying candidates will be issued an admissions decision. Applicants can expect an admissions decision around three weeks after our office has received a completed application.
